About Dr Amali
Dr Amali Navaratna is an experienced General Practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience across a broad range of healthcare settings. Known for her empathetic and thoughtful approach, she believes that good medicine begins with listening. She takes the time to understand each patient's unique story, values and circumstances, working alongside them to achieve the best possible health outcomes.
For Dr Amali, general practice is about much more than diagnosing and treating illness. It is about building trusted relationships and supporting people through life's many stages and challenges. Many of her patients have remained under her care for years, with some families entrusting her with the health and wellbeing of multiple generations. She considers it a privilege to walk alongside her patients through both the joys and difficulties of life, helping them make informed decisions about their health with confidence and clarity.
Her clinical interests include women's health, children's health, mental health, diabetes management, chronic disease care, geriatrics, neurodiversity and preventive health. With a background that includes experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, critical care and anaesthesia, she brings broad clinical expertise to the management of both acute and complex health concerns. She also performs a range of minor surgical procedures within general practice.
A Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Dr Amali holds a Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney, as well as a Master of Health Economics, Management and Policy and a Master of Business Administration. Her professional journey reflects a commitment to lifelong learning and a willingness to explore healthcare beyond traditional clinical boundaries while remaining firmly grounded in patient care. She is also actively involved in medical education and enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students through the University of New South Wales.
Above all, Dr Amali values empathy, trust and genuine human connection. As the mother of two children, she understands firsthand the challenges of balancing family, work and personal wellbeing and brings that real-world perspective to her care of patients and families. Beyond medicine, she enjoys the arts, music and sport, interests that enrich her appreciation of creativity, resilience and lifelong growth.
Dr Amali believes that healthcare works best when patients feel heard, respected and supported. Her goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals and families can build a long-term partnership in health, knowing they have a trusted doctor by their side.
